Conditional Formatting, Criteria from a Table

Let me explain what I am tring to do. I send tissue(leaf) samples from
different agricultural crops to a lab. The send back a report with the levels
of all the essential elements. I then paste them into a spread sheet. there
is a high, low and normal level. These criteria levels will also very
depending on the stage of plant growth, vegetative, early bloom, fruit set,
harvest and etc. Also differant crops have different criteria levels.
I want to paste these results into spread sheet. I then want to enter the
crop stage (number) to the right of the appropriate sample and the element
value in the cell to change color to represent high, normal or low. These
values would come from a table I have setup for each stage of crop growth.
I would also like to set it up so that I could change crops on the same
spread sheet, that is have several crops on the same page. I already have a
spread sheet that will only do 1 crop stage at a time. When I change the
stage of crop growth it changes for all rows(samples) on the sheet.

I'm only going to address the cell coloring question and my solution may
be beyond your capabilities, but I have done a similar thing. Not to
say that it can't be done, but I don't know how to have the color of a
cell in Excel assume a specific color based on what value is loaded into
the cell. However, after the value is loaded into a cell, using a
macro, you could then have Excel examine the value of each cell in a
range of cells, and adjust the formating of that cell based on the
numeric content of the cell. Warning - If you have thousands of cells to
be "colored," it is likely to take far more than a few seconds for your
machine to examine all of the cells in a column.
