conditional format

I have a formula in to highlight the cell when the date exceeds 6 months.
However, I want it to change to a different colour when it exceeds 12
months. I try to add an additional condition but it does not work. Any ideas

Dibs,

If exceeding 6 months is your first condition, it is satisfied
before conditional formatting ever gets to checking whether
or net it exceeds 12 months. Try putting the 12 month
condition first.

I have exactly this set up on my spreadsheet at work, using 3 different
colours depending upon the date in the cell, using something along the lines
of
in a3
=if(a3>3,TRUE,FALSE) and then background colour
=if(a3>1,TRUE,FALSE) and then background colour
=if(a3>=0,TRUE,FALSE) and then background colour

The number is the number of weeks from an action point. If it is false, it
moves onto the next line.

Is 3 the maximum number of "nested" conditional formats that you can have,
or is there an option to increase it?

Cheers Dan,
i think i'll leave it. I have a number of macros already running on this
spreadsheet, and i think the benefits i will get from doing this will
outweigh the hassle involved. IE i would get very little benefit from it
