Can this feature be used to write an "if, then"
situation? I.e., I'd like to format a cell to return
a "B" if an "A" is entered. Is there a way to make this
work?

Thanks!

Nope. You're talking apples and oranges: conditional
format CAN be written with alsomst any formula as the
condition, but it is built to change the FORMAT of the
cell based on that condition, i.e. the font, color,
borders etc. In general, you cannot change the value of a
cell itself based on what you enter in that cell!
Circular reasoning will return you a circular reference
error. Try using changing one column based on another
column.
