computet slows down with skype

I am running windows xp home and when I downloaded the latest version of
skype everything slowed down and I could not shut down normally or use
skype. But when I switch off skype it runs ok again .Is there anything I can
do to solve this ?. I have tried system restore and re installing , both
without success.

Either remove Skype, or contact its makers for assistance; this isn't a
Windows issue.
