Hello

I have a server running windows 2000 server edition and I
am having some network problems.

A curious thing that happens is if I unplug the network
cable and then reconnect it again, the machine becomes
inaccessible to the other computers on the network and it
cannot access those machines as well.
A restart solves it.

What could be the problem?

Unplugging the cable is the cause of the problem, and the cure is not to do
that. :)

As Robert suggested, you can probably fix the problem immediately by opening
a command window and entering the command IPCONFIG /RENEW to get a valid IP
address back.
