I had all sorts of issues with Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 98. The
6.x line does not work on Windows 95, and doesn't work very good on
Windows 98 or Millennium Edition (ME).
You can fix these types of issues by reverting to the previous version
then updating to IE5.5sp2, which is the most stable on Win98.
To uninstall 6.0 go to the control panel and into "Add/Remove
Programs" and highlight the entry for "Microsoft Internet explorer..."
and press the "Add/Remove" button.
Then select the opeion to "Restore the previous windows configuration"
and press the "OK" button then the "Yes" button on the next window to
go back to your previous version of Internet Explorer.
Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't have Internet Explorer 5.5 service
pack 2 (sp2) for download anymore. You can download it from evolt.org
but some of us have had problems getting their download to install. I
got the 85MB full install from on-disk (
http://on-disk.com/ie55sp2.html ) on a CD for $3.00 and it works
flawlessly. It's the 84M full version not just the installer. It
includes Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Internet Tools, 128 bit
encryption, Java, etc.
I haven't bothered to install 6.0 because 5.5 works so well for me. It
has never crashed.
