Computer Won't stop processing

Is there a simple way to find out why your computer
sounds like it is constantly processing something even
when you are not using it. The clicking sound of
something being processed is constant and it has slowed
down other operations and I can't figure out what is
running constantly. any suggestions

Ctrl+Alt+Del, then choose the Processes tab.
