I had recently uninstalled some AOL crap stuff that came with the computer
(dont think this is related to the problem though), then I uninstalled a
program i had recently downloaded called ObjectDock. Before the
uninstallation was complete, the computer shut off. I tried to turn it back
on, put before anything could come up on the screen, it shut off again. I
tried this 5 or 6 times.

I understand a lot about computers, so when i ran into this problem, i tried
to find a solution with mcafee by looking for a virus by the name of
ObjectDock. No such luck, i dont think it was a virus. Sometimes i can get
the computer to load up to the the user login, then when i login, it loads a
few things, then it shuts down. thats as far as ive gotten so far.

...K just tried to start it again, it worked, so i logged onto the original
computer administrator and deleted the account that i got screwed on, as well
as all the files on it.

....mmmmk. seems to work fine now. I would still like to know what happened,
and i would like to advise everyone not to download objectdock, or atleast
take care when uninstalling.

BTW the computer i was using was made by Toshiba. Dunno if that effects
anything.

I use Object Dock on both of my home computers and have never run into the
trouble you describe. I'm sorry that you had problems when uninstalling it
and installing an AOL product but have to wonder if there was something
else at the root of the symptoms your old account developed.

One suggestion I would like to make: Scan the system for *any* virus,
instead of one named after a program that was recently installed or
uninstalled.

One more: Restart the system in between system changes such as installing
or uninstalling software. Supposedly an old fashioned notion where XP is
concerned but personally feel more confident about the accuracy of any
changes that an install or uninstall will make to the system. And if you do
run into trouble, it is somewhat easier to pinpoint the origin.
