Computer won't start!

I have a modestly old computer that runs with windows 2000 and has two 9MB drives, when I start my computer it does fine until i come to a screen where it asks my to select which drive i want to access, once i select it says "ntdetect failed" and the screen freezes. all this happened before i even log in.

please help!

i'm not a computer expert or anything close to it but i'm looking at the computer and it says "dell dimension L466cx"

The Ntdetect.com file is missing or damaged ... you are going to need to "repair" it.
