Computer won't reboot after installing updates

I was working on my friends computer, managed to get SP4
on there after downloading it manually, since it had been
giving me problems. After that, I rebooted fine and went
onto Windows Update to see if I could get the hotfixes
alright, which I did.....but when it prompted to reboot, I
did so....and now it gets hung up on reboot EVERY TIME I
try. I've been trying to look through the newsgroups for
some help on the problem....and I suppose it may have been
the KN835732 that's causing it (although I don't
know).....but I can't fix anything, because it won't load
Windows 2000 in any mode. Does anyone have any ideas on
where to take it from here?

I have the same problem. The cause is KB835732 but I
can't boot even in safe mode in order to uninstall it.
The only hope is to use the Recovery Console on the CD.
I have tried this as others have suggested on other
forums (i.e., use the microsoft method of removing
service packs and patches from the Recovery Console), but
when I run the BATCH spuninst.bat command, I get
multiple "Access Denied" errors and the dreaded KB835732
doesn't get removed. These steps should have worked. It's
a "permission" bug because you're supposed to have access
to these files from the Recovery console. So, my next
step is to stick my drive in my other XP system and
change any file/folder attributes that I can that may be
causing the "Access Denied" error. AS far as I'm
cocerned, the KB835732 patch is worse than the virus.

I've same problem, you can read kb841382 about it. CPU
usage is about 99 per cent and you can log onto windows
but you must wait long time. if i can install hotfix
supplied by microsoft and if this hotfix repairs the
problem i can send you by mail.
