computer wont open templates

i'm about to go insaine! i intstalled micosoft office student and teacher edition and nothing works. In powerpoint, i cant even open a template. the error message says it cannot read the file or the file is unavailable. why can i do??? and i can save things, but cant retreive them. what is the deal? PLEASE E MAIL ME AND LET ME KNOW YOUR IDEAS
