My home pc, which is running XP Professional, will not move past the initial
screen that shows the Intel Pentium IV emblem. I can't even start in safe
mode. What can I do? It was caused by trying to read from a memory card
from Sony Ericsson mobile.

First, you should post your XP question in a Windows XP group, rather than
in this .NET programming group.
A good choice would be:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

To get you started...
What you describe is your PC not completing POST (Power on self test).
If the PC will not boot at all, it may well be that whatever you did
corrupted the BIOS.
To reset the BIOS to defaults, you need to read your system manual, or
motherboard manual to determine the proper procedure for resetting your
BIOS. The process often involves locating the appropriate motherboard
jumper, then moving the pin connector to designated pins for a few seconds
*with all power removed* from the motherboard. Alternatively, it the CMOS
battery is removed from its socket for a few minutes (again, with *all
power* removed from the motherboard), then replaced, that should reset your
BIOS to defaults, and allow your system to POST.
