My computer turns off at approx. 20% completion when reading the dvd in the intial phase. I am using dvd x copy platinum and a hp dvd writer dc3000 dvd burner. My computer is a e-machine 518mhz 448 mb of ram I am using windows xp home edition 2002. I have no idea what to do to eliminate this problem. I feel that it has something to do with when the dvd is being temperarely saved to the computer prior to the actuall burning process.

Sounds like your power settings are causing the computer to switch off.

Right Click on the desktop, this will bring up 'Display Properties' window.

Click on screensaver tab, then click the 'power' button in the 'Monitor
power' section.

Go to 'Power Schemes' tab and change the settings for turning off the hard
disks to 'Never'

Also do the same for 'System standby' & 'System hbernates'

This should help.

I tried your suggestions and still my computer turns of at approx 20%. If you or any one else has any more ideas please inform.

My computer is doing the same type of thing. When I attempt to save a movie it shuts off at about 50-60%. I was told that there was a problem with my hard drive and to back up all important data that i had on my computer. I suggest you do the same and then bring it to a professional to get it fixed
