Could anyone tell me what it means when the computer tower makes a lot of
noises, like clicking, electronic sounds whenever I make any moves, like
going to a webpage, sending mail, anything really. I have HP Pavilion 7900,
about three years old, and XP Home.

Thank you for any thoughts,
San

Clicking sounds are most often made by the hard drive when it is about to
fail. Backup what you want/need IMMEDIATELY!

Then go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer (HP used to use
Maxtor, I don't know which manufacturer they currently use).... download
their utilities program and check the drive.

Hard drives fail. Fact of life. Do NOT assume data is safe... EVER. I've
had a hard drive fail in as little as 5 months... others seem to have gone
on forever.

Since it came with the PC, it's considered OEM and therefore out of
guarantee (which would have been one year).

Thanks, Cari for telling me that. I'm not too computer-literate, so I will
have to learn to do the backup, but after I check the drive and it does say
that the hard drive is going bad, how do I replace it? I mean, is it
something you have to take out, (the bad one) and put in a new one, or just
download something new over the bad one?

Much Thanks,
San

The new drive will come with a utilities disk that will let you copy
everything from the old drive to the new drive. If it's going bad, there's
no point in even keeping it as anything you save on it could be lost at
anytime.

If you're worried about installing a new drive, the computer retail store
can probably do it for you (for a price) but will at least save your sanity
over whether you can install it correctly.
