Computer suddenly slow

I have recently downloaded some programs to detect spyware, and "Pop-Up
Stopper", and I also ran a program that puts a list of web-sites in the
"restricted sites" section in the IE settings. This has all helped eliminate
most of the pop-ups I was getting, but my connection has gotten really slow
at times recently. Sometimes its fine, but often when I go to click on a
link or scroll down a page, or click on a new window, there is anywhere
between a 5 to 15 second delay before anything happens. I also get a lot of
pausing when I type something online (like this message). I have a cable
modem and the connection speed was fine until about a month ago. Could any
of the above programs I installed be slowing down my connection?

I've already tried most of those steps to remove parasites and pop-ups and it
seemed to correct that problem. But since then my internet connections is
very slow...unbearably in some cases. Is this due to the anti-parasite and
anti-pop-up software I downloaded?

It is more likely that it is due to some parasite that wasn't completely
cleaned.
Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.

It would help if you'd list the programs you downloaded before the
problem started. Those experienced with those programs might be able
to help.
