Hi all. I have a problem recently booting up my PC - seems to be related to
the Bios/memory?

When I hit the startup button, the screen would be blank although the system
seems to be running (judging by the indicator lights). The system does not
boot - i.e. there is no sound alert from the board and the usual followup
sequence does not occur - running the bios, testing the memory, searching
for the drives etc.

I have had to shut down the system (holding down the button) before it
finally boots into windows after several tries.

Any advice? TIA.

System info:
Win XP
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (o/c)
Epox board
512 MB RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4200 card
2 HDDs

your problem does infact apear to be your bios settings..
first id try reloading bios defaults in your bios if that
does not work then reflash your bios but be very careful
with this procedure .. if the motherboard is new then
take it back as defective.. other then that it can be the
bios battery.

If your computer was booting before correct, then you don't need a bios
update. What startup button are you talking about, the power button..?
Disconect everthing off the pc, sept the video card also reseat you memory
sticks and reboot.

I had a similar problem with my computer, I had to retry and restart
until it finally booted into Windows (and Linux no difference). It also
hung randomly (between 10 min and 48 hours) of uptime. It turned out to
be the Power Supply unit that failed me. I had a 300W for a much similar
system setup as yours. It had run just fine for about a year but then
suddenly it started to behave strange. It took a while to figure this
out but once I had replaced the PSU with a brand new 480W it is running
better than ever.

Good luck!
