Computer Start-up Issue

The problem started with my computer halting at the XP screen at
startup. I was able to go into safe mode and do a system restore for a
prior day, but that did not solve the problem. I reformatted the
partition on my Hard Drive that contains the operating system and
tried to re-install XP. The install halts every time at 34 minutes
remaining. The Screen freezes and the keyboard and mouse do not
function.

I suspect it is the memory strip (has only one) or my hard drive might
be damaged.

It sounds like a memory problem to me. It could be anything though... In
fact, about a week ago my old computer, Win98SE, was giving me all kinds of
lock-up problems. I did everything... RAM, Power Supply, etc. then finally
I disconnected my CD-RW drive. It has never run better! Its wierd, but
give some of the other components a test!

Mike I had the same problem and it ended up being a bad
cpu everytime it got warmed up it would crash which was
about the same place everytime. It could also be over
heating which means check the heat sink & fan unit and
make sure its properly secure or get a new one. Also the if
the memory is bad it good do the same thing as the cpu i
mentioned above when it gets warmed up it will crash. Hope
ya figure it out.
