Can anyone help me?? Lately my computer has been VERY slow and I dont know what going on. it is a new computer but takes a long time to perform any task---even opening simple documents. Any help would be great

1. Run your antivirus program to remove any viruses.
2. Download and run Adaware (www.lavasoftusa.com) or Spybot S&D (do a
search on google) to get rid of any adware and spyware
3. Ctl-Alt-Del to bring up Task Manager and see whats running.

Regarding #2, I actually run them both. One will sometimes catch things the
other doesn't.

thats because adware and virus software are like apples and oranges.

First, don't top-post, we barely know what you're responding to (this post
reordered for clarity).

Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D both target adware and spyware, neither is an
anti-virus product. And it is useful to use them both because their
definition files are somewhat different and they have some areas they don't
overlap. Both are quire useful.

When you check Task Manager and if you find any out of control processes
taking up a big chunk of your CPU time, note the file name. Do a search for
the file on your hard disk, search for it on Symantec or other security
site, Google. Don't be too quick to remove files should you find them. The
fact that they are there may not be the problem and removing could disable
or degrade your system further.

Also, is your Internet connection slower than usual when you are online? if
you are online while this connection/computer slowness is occuring,
disconnect. Have Task Manager open while you do this and see if it helps in
any area. This might help to isolate what area is causing the problem.
