Maybe your DVD/CD drive? Check to see if the light is
flasing when this happens. Take out any CD from it and
see if it happens again.

This has been covered in the thread YOU started 14/12 'Computer noise'.
Asking virtually the same question only two days later won't bring you any
different answers!

When my computer turns on. My computer gets louder, but when i get fully
login and wait a little bit, it stops. I don't think that it's the fans, but
i maybe the hard drive. What do you guys think?

Here's how to do it:

Open the case and use a small rubber hose.

This may sound funny but it actually works:

Just put one end in your ear and use the other end to 'sniff' out the source
of the noise...
you can really pinpoint it.

I'm a real old timer and used that method to balance the air intake of the
dual SU carburetors
on my 1959 Triumph. It worked great and saved me the expensive of purchasing
some sophisticated equipment !

Oh btw, I'm not *that* old...I bought the car in 1972...
so I'm just closer to 100 years old than to 1000 :)

Hi Philo
I can concur that it works perfectly with a computer as it did for me years
ago on my Mini Cooper - about every 500 miles - those twin SU carbs were
always getting unbalanced - well they did, due to the way I drive the car
:-)
I still have that piece of tube(rubber hose) given to me by a garage that
specialised in 'car tuning') - 6" long a 1 inch in diameter - or a cardboard
insert from a roll of kitchen paper - but the sonic effect is not as good as
the rubber tube.
I used it recently to detect a faulty fan in a power unit.
One of the twin 80mm fans bearings had gone - got it swapped free of charge
with a single 120mm fanned unit.

Well I was not a big perfectionist...so only balanced the carbs
occasionally...
but they really would have needed it quite often.

I owned that car for 30 years and used to kid around with people that for
every hour I drove the car...
it would take about an hour's worth of repairing ...

One day i decided to actually do the math to see how badly i was
exaggerating...
only to find that i was actually *underestimating* the repair time.

I put the car on ebay and sold it :)

someone else's problem now!
