Apparently, your computer has an unwelcome visitor (VIRUS) known
as the WM32 Blaster/Lovsan WORM. It only takes a split second for
this WORM to infect your computer if a firewall is not enabled and you
have an active internet connection.

It entered the computer through the internet connection because the "firewall"
was not properly enabled and essential critical updates were not installed from
the Windows Update website. For instructions on fixing the problem, visit:

If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown
or reboot, quickly go to:

Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
This opens the Command Prompt window.

Then type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

Then immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:

I had this problem several times before I finally found
out that it was a worm/virus.

Listen to everything Carey Frisch put in the reply to
your post.

The biggest threat is that these viruses are so fast that
if you connect to the internet before you activate a
firewall then chances are you'll be infected immediately.

Enable a firewall and antivirus software before hooking
up to the internet.

Even if this is a new computer or a fresh install, don't
allow ANY internet activity INCLUDING activation and
registration UNTIL AFTER you've turned on a firewall.

Otherwise you will be facing the same problems if you
ever have to reinstall the os.

In my case NAV2003 does not like another virus checker - Pest Patrol -
running at the same time. After uninstalling Pest Patrol, then cleaning the
XP registry, everything now is as before. No crashes!!! Possibly new
antivirus definitions caused NAV to go nuts against Pest Partol?
