When my friend, who is running Windows XP, goes online,
using MSN, she gets a message saying that the shutdown
process "has been initiated by NT Authority/Security" and
it shows a clock counting down from 1:00 - 0:59 - 0:58,
etc. After it hits 0:00, the computer shut off.

What is causing this? Is it XP or MSN that is at fault?

Your friend probably has the MSBlast work virus. Go to
Symantic's web site and download FixBlast.exe and run it.
Also, make sure you remove any file called msblast from
our Windows\System32 and Windows\prefetch folders. You
will need to check in the registry to make sure
msblast.exe is not set for windows auto update value or
the problem will keep repeating.
