Computer Shutdown on Web w/Strange Error

Brand new Gateway 2.8 Mhz, all the toys. New Cable Modem
connection to net. After surfing for varying minutes I get
a black screen shutdown and then a blue screen with the
error message "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Have already
applied patch for worm and run worm removal tool. No help.
Apparently worm not present. Actually have not been on net
long enough to download anything! Gateway thought to solve
problem by giving me a new system. No help. Same problem.
Has anyone seen such a thing? Thanks, Dave

What is the full "Stop" error that accompanies the
"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error?
Is there any file name involved such as one ending in ".sys"?
If the only thing you are hooking up to this new system is that
cable modem, it might be causing the error. If you are also installing
some NIC whether internal or external, then that might be suspect.
Or any software associated with the cable modem or NIC.
