Hey People!
Please help! My computer shuts off suddenly when i connect my headphones to the front audio connectors of my case, leaving only a flashing green led on the case front.
Thanks,
Sunny

Does it reset or turn off? It sounds like a physical electrical fault to do something like that, have you wired the front connectors up correctly if you fitted it yourself? Does it do the same if you use the rear ports on your PC?

The computer turns off immediatley without any warning bleeps or messages shown on screen. The connectors were wired up by myself, which i have checked again. I refered to the mobo manual which states that the front connectors have priorty over the rear, so if i connect in headphones when the rear speakers are connected they will cut off. Weirdly, this problem only occurs sometimes when i connect in my headphones. There have been times where i can connect my headphones without any shut off. I dunno if this helps but someone told me this could be due to a grounding problem? Any ideas?

What motherboard are you using?
Do you have to set any jumpers on the motherboard to set change sockets from rearPC to frontPC?
It does sound like a short happening somewhere, so could be a ground problem, but it is strange if it only happens sometimes.

Are your motherboard drivers and BIOS up to date?

im using a msi ms-6741 motherboard, all up to date.
There are no jumpers for changing sound, the rear output is disabled as soon as the front becomes active. What can i do to correct this problem?

First thing I'd do is test the headphones on another pc, if the same thing happens then you're looking at replacing or fixing the headphones.

Good suggestion, try that first.

You say you connected the front sockets up yourself. You're positive they are all connected to the right connections?
Are there any BIOS settings, that affect the auto switching of the sound from rear to front?

Is this your board? http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.aspx?product_id=703540&cat_id=77

Yep that's my mobo.
I tested the headphones on my brother's computer and they work fine. Im not aware of any bios settings that affect auto switching. I have also checked again that the connectors of the front panel are connected to the right jumpers (JAUD1)
