My friend was playing with the "Narrator" accessiblity
option and the computer locked up. Upon rebooting it, it
would constantly restart itself upon reaching
the "Windows XP Professional" boot screen. I have GoBack
installed which would often bring up an error, "Disk
error or hardware error....", something to that effect.
When I tried to rollback to a previous system setting, it
would either fail or keep rebooting. When I select
the "Last Known Good Configuration" option in the Windows
boot options, it would do the same thing. I can't get to
Safe Mode or a command prompt either.

I was going to reinstall XP on my then C drive only to
find it's been changed to the E drive. Unfortunetly
Windows says it can't reinstall onto that disk.

Please, please, please someone help me fix this. I have
no idea what the heck is happening...

I suggest you get your WIn XP cd snd boot up from it. You
will have an option to perform repair.Just make sure you
can boot from CD rom

Why try using GoBack when you have System Restore?

I think you need to do a complete fresh XP installation.

That's the thing. I can't get into Windows to use system
restore. I tried repairing the OS using the Win XP CD but
I have no idea how to use the tools provided. I couldn't
get an automated repair.

I tried installing XP on my D drive so I could at least
get into the GUI which worked, but now I can't access the
other drive. It's listed in the Disk Manager, but I can't
assign a drive letter to it to explore it.

Boot with the XP CDROM and follow the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm for doing a Repair
Install.

Good luck
