My husband doesn't want me to use Outlook because he says it leaves my
computer vulnerable to being hacked. I heard that years ago but assumed the
problems had been fixed by now. Will my computer be safe if I use Outlook?

Completely untrue, if that was the case it would be true for an email app.
Its more a question of what the end user does with dubious mail, and not
have critical updates installed or any anti virus or firewall configured

Yes, provided you use Outlook 2003 or 2007. The newest versions are the
safest- the older versions the most insecure. Avoid Outlook 98 - it’s the
least secure. Outlook 2003 and 2007 are highly recommended because they
will have updates available for future security issues. Outlook 2002 and
older are long past support and will not be updated.
