i am having problems with my computer running slow and hesitating alot. i am
running XP home Ed 2002. it seems to run ok at times and other times it takes
2 minutes to bring swith pages. i am using DSL so it should go faster than
this.
in games where the sound is going it seems to be the worse. actions that use
to take just a few seconds are taking a minute or two to do.
i have installed "System Mechanics 6" and use it at least every other day to
clean out garbage and fix registrys and optimize and that seems to helps a
lilttle. i have also run it to determine duplicate files and i have over 5800
of them, many being .dll files each located in different places. i am at a
lost of what to try to do and i am ready to just dump my system and reinstall
it. but i am trying not to.
please HELP!!!!!

i hope this is enough information for you.

thank you

Install a good firewall - one that blocks unwanted outbound traffic as well
as unwanted inbound traffic. Then when something tries to connect, out of
the ordinary, you will be flagged. At that point you can disallow that
particular instance either once or permanently. A good FREE firewall is
available here:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?lid=dbtopnav_za

Then check your system for infestations of viruses, spyware, dialers, key
loggers etc.

Download, install, update and run the following:

If you don't have any antivirus installed, AVG Antivirus (free) from
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Ad-Aware (free) from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

SpyBot Search and Destroy (free) from
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Microsoft Anti Spyware (free) from
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Spyware Sweeper from Webroot (purchase)
http://www.webroot.com/

Don't ever go clicking things just because a web site, e-mail, popup or
rogue desktop tells you to! If you are not 101% certain what an action will
do - don't perform that action. Control your clicking finger!
