computer restarts whenever I install something new

When I try to install a .exe file...when I click on it, as you do to start the install process, it shuts my computer down and restarts it. This happens with anything I try to install that happens to be a .exe. Now, before you ask, I have a virus-scanner up-to-date and running at all times...there are no viruses showing up when I run a complete system scan

Any suggestions, advice?
 
try booting in safe mode. most viruses if they got onto your system are
able to defeat scans!

By a chance, would you happen to know if you’re using InstallShield® To setup the executable file that you’re referring to? If so, did you get done installing the application before your Machine was restarted? If so, usually these types of applications prompt a user for this type of procedure. It’s possible for the software designer to restart your machine without prompting, but I doubt this would always be the case for you, since you Said “every .exe†restarts your computer. But, if this was helpful, please reply with details, if not, be more specific of what’s going on for me to be able to accurately be able to assist you properly. Thanks a lot, Brian.
