I am using Windows 2000 as the server software. 5 other
computer workstations are running WIN 98SE, and one
running ME. Three of the five workstations run ok, but
the other two get a password request when trying to
access programs on the server. I have setup an
administrator account, but that password is not accepted.
All five computers appear to be configured the same. Is
there a generic password I should be using?
Thanks for any help

The best thing you can do is just make sure that a username/password does
exist for each user account you use on each workstation. On the Win98SE and
ME systems you can do into the c:\windows dir and search for all the *.pwl
files. These are the Password Lists, and you can see the username.pwl
format. Just delete the accounts you are having issues with and when you
reboot you will be prompted to resave the password, hence resetting it on
the client. Just an idea. :)

If its anything like my home network, you need to make sure you have an
enabled guest account on any 2000 machine you are sharing for the 9x boxes
to get access otherwise you get prompted for the IPC$ shares password which
you cannot bypass by entering anything.

If its a domain controller enviro then thats diff, you shouldnt need to
enable guest account.

True, enabling the guest account will work but if for whatever reason I can
reach that computer from the internet, then I can access all resources on
that box. :)

So I always try and create the username/passwords and make the password a
bit complex.
