I have a problem with several folders in c:\documents &
settings\user\local folders\temporary internet
files\Content.ie5. A couple of the folders in content ie5,
if clicked on or try to delete, will cause the computer to
reboot. This is after doing a delete of temporary internet
files in internet explorer tools, so there should be
nothing in them.
First noticed it about several weeks ago. When I
deleted the temporary internet files then, the computer
hung a couple of times & did the reboot thing. After
trying a couple of times it was successful. I check the
temp. internet folder and the files were all gone but
there where a couple subfolders left that I did not going
into or check.
Last night, Friday, the computer does its complete
virus check. It had hung before completing. It did the
same thing last week but I didn't think nothing of it.
Last night I started the virus scan again manually and it
hung on the folder OZRNQ8X9, had to reboot. that's what
brought it to my attention. I can't delete this one and 2
other folders. The computer will also lock when trying to
expand content.ie5 on the left side of the explorer window
or if I click on the one of the folders on the right side
of the window.
I understand these folders are created when a down
load is not completed while on the net.
I have tired to delete in the safe mode and by
using "rd" with the DOS prompt but it always locks up and
reboots or gives me "unknown hard error" that won't let me
do anything but reboot.
I have not tried do delete and/or drag to the trash
can the whole folder content.ie5, not sure if it will let
me without hanging or doing it's reboot thing. I
understand it will create another one as soon as I launch
Internet Explorer again. Not sure, never tried it. I read
this on some sites trying to find if there any fixes for
this posted anywhere. Had no luck on this exact problem,
even at Microsoft knowledge base. They said not to delete
Content.ie5. but if you do another one will be
created. ???
Any suggestions or tips as to what is going on and
what I can do about it. Its windows 2000 pro. There are no
other problems I am aware of.
TIA
