I am using Windows XP when I shut down the computer with the normal shut
down it will immediately reboot. This requires my staying at the computer
and waiting for the shut down and when it is complete I have to push the
button on the computer before it has a chance to reboot.
This is really annoying and any help would be appreciated.

If you have the "restart on failure" option set then this may be the
result of an error during the shutdown process.

Use Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings button
in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section. In the Startup and
Recovery window click on the checkbox for "automatically restart" to
clear it then on OK and Apply as needed to exit.

Next try shutting down the computer. This time you may get a "Blue
Screen Of Death" STOP error message instead of a restart. If so then
the contents of the STOP message, including the STOP code, all 4
parameters, and any file or module names mentioned, will be a direct
clue as to the underlying cause of the error. Post that information
back here.

Good luck
