My computer is automatically getting shut down at regular intervals. How to
avert it? A message like "Your computer will get shut down in 60 seconds" is
appearing followed by the unwanted shut down.
 
Hi,

Sounds like you have the "Blaster" virus.

Click START > RUN and enter "Shutdown -a" (without quotes) and hit ENTER.

This will abort the shutdown sequence. Now you can search the Internet for
the BlasterWorm virus removal.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

My Media Center Edition computer just cannot start normally on its first day
of operation. When I try to start up normally, it says that Windows has been
shut down and displays this: "The STOP error is:0x0000008e (0xc0000005,
0x00000000, 0xf88900bc, 0xf888fdb8)

Your problem could hardware or a problematic driver.

Try HD Tune (freeware).
Download and run it and see what it turns up.

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on C:\ under Drive letter
and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Also do a full surface scan with HD Tune.

Then try testing your memory

I seem to be having the same problem. My computer boots up then shuts off
periodically, either two minutes to an hour. Im thinking it could be this
"Blaster" virus, but my computer doesnt give me a notice that it is going to
shut down, it just does. Is this the same virus, or a different one all
together? Any help will be appreciated
