I am running Windows XP on my home computer and I have had
the computer for about 3 months. all of the sudden
yesterday the computer powered itself on. I shut it off
and it has powered itself back on a few times since then.
Does anyone know why this would happen. Could there be
some sort of timer that I may have activated that powers
the computer on by itself? I did notice that there is an
app that pulls up for my motherboard, it is called easy
tune and it monitors the board and its functions and there
is also an edd software for my modem that pulls up and
says its enabled. Any help would be appreciated.

Start/ControlPanel/Performance and Maintenance/Power
Options/Advanced tab/Power buttons/When I Shutdown
block/check if "Shutdown" is in that block or use the
small down arrow to change it to "Shutdown"/Apply/OK

I unplugged the phone line from the modem on saturday and
the computer did not power on by itself at all, I then
plugged the phone line back in on Sunday and it powered
itself on a couple of times. the computer powers on and
the 2 programs I mentioned are the only ones running.
There is no internet connection but somehow the phone line
being plugged in has something to do with it. I am never
in the room when it actually powers on, so I dont know if
it connects to the internet and then disconnects itself.
One thing I forgot to mention is that I was infected by
the blaster worm in august. I removed it using the tools
from Symantecs website and I downloaded the patch from
Microsofts website. this is the only virus/worm I have
gotten. does anyone know if this could have something to
do with it?
