Hello,

I am about to do a major overhaul on my computer which
will require a format of the harddrive and reinstallation
of windows XP... how does that work with the activation
key as I used it already on these components. When I use
the same key microsoft will see that I already used it
and will deny it. What do I do?

No they won't. As long as the hardware stays essentially the
same, reactivataion should be as easy as it was the first time.

well the moterhboard, CPU, Ram, and Harddrive will be
essentially new... the only things remaining will be the
video card, sound card, peripherals which dont store any
system information. I dont see how they will be able to
tell its still me using the CD... I can prove its my copy
by the serial on the cd, is the number I can call?

Hi Andrew,

You can reinstall and activate on the same hardware as many times as you
please. It will not be an issue for you. Worst case scenario is that you
would have to phone it in if you reactivate frequently (makes it seems like
you are installing on clones).

Hi Andrew,

You should read up on how activation actually works, please read:

Greetings --

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the Internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
