I get above sound and cannot find it under Control Panel and Windows sounds.

Where does it come from and where is it stored?

OS is windows XP Pro.

I'm sorry, but your post is unclear. What does "booting Operating System
sound" mean? Please describe the problem better, remembering that we cannot
hear your computer and "Operating System sound" is meaningless. Also be
more precise as to when the sound occurs - before the operating system is
loaded or as a Windows startup sound.

It's assigned in Control Panel | Sounds. The sound files by
default are in c:\windows\media.

The way you ask a question is really poor. But, I can help you - I think.

Because I have an ASUS motherboard, I can tell you it comes from the sound
events embedded in the computer bios.

If you hear "Computer now booting from operating system", spoken
in a woman's voice, that is a BIOS function. It is an Asus
motherboard feature called Vocal POST. Enter the BIOS, and
see if you can find "Report System Booting" and [Disable] it.

Also, if you use a separate PCI sound card, that audio signal
will not be directed to the sound card. The Vocal POST only
comes out of the green connector on the motherboard build-in
audio. The Vocal POST chip is capacitively coupled to the green
connector, so the audio signal cannot "move" if a separate
sound card is used.

Thank you Paul for a great answer.
I will look in the BIOS of my ASUS MB and disable this sound. I have had the
MB for a few years and never before had this announcement come up, that is
why I looked under the various sounds in the Control Panel and could not
find it.

Your answer sheds new light now on this problem.
Thanks again.

You know ritter197 your question does have a grain of sense based on the
answer you got from Paul. If I had the same issue I'd be hard pressed to
pose the question differently.
