Computer not recognised on network

My PC 'broke down' on me the other day and I replaced it with another
PC.

I plugged it all in including the ethernet cable, but how do I now get
it to show on the network? Is there not a way that the system can
automatically detect that a PC has been added to the network?

If there isn't, how can I add it to the network? Through the Active
Directory I presume, but how?

Many thanks for any help you can give me.

You need to enable file and printer sharing. assuming you have domain network, you may want to join the domain.

The problem I have is that when the PC starts up it is asking for an
Administrators password (I believe it is a 'local' administrators
password that is required).

I am the network administrator but my passwords don't seem to work!! I
have gone through the 'Computer Management (Local)' and reset the
'administrator' password, however this didn't seem to work.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers
Glenn
