I have 2 computers (desktop & laptop) networked via a
router, both run WinXP. I have shared the complete drives
on both. XP firewall, etc. is off and ZoneAlarm is
uninstalled. The desktop can see and explore the laptop.
The laptop can see the desktop if I look at the workgroup
computers screen. However, when I try to open it, I get
the following error message:

\\Desktop is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
admin of this server to find out if you have access
permissions.
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the
requested logon type at this computer.

I've read a bunch of posts here and searched the
internet, but following the instructions doesn't seem to
solve the problem. I've tried simple and advanced
sharing. The login names and passwds are the same on both
computers. Guest account is active. What am I missing or
doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I don't have the answer I have the same question only
more so. I have 4 computers. One new XP Home, 1 old(cel
700) XP Home, 1 ME and one 98. They all have internet
access through a router with static IP using DHCP for
each computer. However, for the network... The Me and 98
can see and talk to each other, The new XP exhibits the
same scenario you describe with the other 3, the old XP
sees no one.
All I want is to file share across the board. Is there a
source that I can go into to try to unravel this.

I have the same with three machines all running XP. It worked before and not
now. I would love some help as well

I have the same problem. The problem definitely lies with
the XP machine.

If on the XP machine you explore My Network Places and
look at the shares on the local machine, you will see the
error - in my case....

\\xyz is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource. Contact the admin of this
server to find out if you have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this
command

A Microsoft article suggests this error can arise if
Netbios is not enabled over TCP/IP but I have checked
this and the problem remains

I did 2 things and now the XP areseeing and working right.
Zone alarm closes the ports, Turning off Zone Alarm does
not reopen them, you have to uninstall it or configure it
(even the free) to open a range IP (the network) in my
case 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.7 and reduce the fireall
setting from high to med. And I added the protocol
indicated in post

(e-mail address removed)%253E

I may not have had to do it all but now it works...

I'm using a router w/ a hardware firewall, so I have
already uninstalled ZoneAlarm. What is the protocol you
added (the link didn't lead anywhere for me)?
