My computer name is "ciceroj". when I take it out of the docking station and
plug the LAN wire at work directly into the back of it, it changes to
"psw123XXXX". now when I pull the LAN out and use wireless it gets another
name "ppw78XXXX". So the question is: How can a computer's name change? when
u install Windows you give it a Computer name, that name "should" be stuck
with it until you destroy it or reinstall OS - correct? So how does this
happen?

Where are you seeing this?? Does it change in System Properties/computer
name?

Well, are you going to tell us where the docking station is plugged
in? Obviously to have a network connection means the docking station
also has to be plugged in somewhere. It could be the docking station
is plugged into one wall port, you are plugging into a different wall
port, and the WiFi connect is obviously completely different. Each
port, even WiFi, could be in a different segment of your corporate
network or even differently zoned (i.e., the subnets are in different
security zones). You'll see the same thing when working at work and
in one security zone there which is different than the security zone
you get when you VPN from home. I suspect domain policies, perhaps
even login scripts in the policy, are defining what host name is used
based on which subnet or security zone the host is connected. For
example, how could YOU when selecting a hostname know that it was
unique across all domains, subnets, or security zones at work?

Are you asking about the hostname, or are you asking about the IP name
assigned to you by whatever DHCP server you happen to connect to?
Perhaps you are connecting to different DHCP servers so each gives you
a different IP address and has its own separate IP name in its DNS
table for the IP address that you got.
