Computer Name and Host Name clarification

For the first time I intend to allow users of our XPE based instrument to
use ethernet connection. This means (I think) that I have to let the user
configure the "host name" parameter (in the TCP/IP parameters). Currently,
as common in desktop XP systems, the host name is set to be the same as the
"Computer Name" (if you change the computer name with computer properties,
host name changes as well). Is there any problem if the names become
different? I'd like to keep the computer name the way it is, as it reflects
the instrument type and serial number.

Any other insights into how are those two parameters used and any relation
between them?

Thanks.

If two of your devices are on the network at the same time, they will
conflict because they have the same name. You might want to use the
Deployment Identification Settings in the configuration settings to
determine product ID.

The devices don't have the same name (the name is based on their serial
number). My question is about any potential problem from having a "host
name" (as in
"HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Hostname") which is
different than the "Computer Name" (as in
"HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\ComputerName\ComputerName").

Thanks.
