My desktop, had a major meltdown! It is in an endless
cycle of trying to turn itself on. I went into the bios
and told it do a boot from a CDROM, put in the
Symantec/Norton disc and it did nothing, put in the
Windows XP Upgrade disc and it came up with an error
message screen(blue screen) that said this:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly
installed hard drives or hard drive contorllers. Check
your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and
terminated. Run CHKDKS/F to check for Hard Drive
corruption and then Restart your computer.
Technical Information:
Stop: 0X0000007B (0XF898563C, OXC00000034,0X00000000,
0X00000000)
A Problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown
to prevent damage to your computer.
That is it.
This all happened when I was downloading the Windows
updates (14 of them) then it asked me if I wanted to turn
my computer off and I said no, then I tried to download a
new Windows driver update they recommended and it said it
didn't download properly! Then I turned the computer off
and it went beserk and when it tried to turn itself back
on it goes through a cycle of trying to turn itself back
on over and over and over and over...well you get the
picture.
We had installed a new driver (UltraATA 133 PCI) board to
operate the two CDRW's that I have in my computer and I
went in and disconnected those and it continued to do the
recycle of trying to start up. So although the error
message implied that had something to do with it, I don't
think that is the problem.
While I was doing the downloads there was a prompt from
Zone Alarm that said that 'com surrogate' wanted to access
the internet and when I checked the Zone Alarm notes it
said it was Nalchi or Welchia worm or virus trying to
propulgate itself by getting an outside port. I have run
the disk doctor from Norton and it was not picking it up
unless it picked it up the same morning I did the
downloads! Is it possible it is attaching itself to the
Microsoft Windows Update downloads?
Any recommendations? Does anyone know how to restart
Windows when it has done this kind of shut down in Windows
XP Pro?
