Every game I try to play on my computer locks up my machine.Even when I tried a electronic microscope.Thought it might
be my video card so I went and bought a new Radeon 9200 128 mb card and it still locks up.I have a 2.4 intel with 512 ram
running xp

Hi Justwantto,

Hardware issues can cause freezing, black screens and other
errors. Also, your drivers should always be kept up to date.

Try the following steps one at a time to try and resolve the issue.
I hope this helps. Please post back if you have any questions! :-)

1. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://NibblesNbitsVideo.tk

2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.
Use this Motherboard Monitor Utility: http://mbm.livewiredev.com

3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ (Min. 350 for gaming)

4. Test your RAM using: http://www.memtest86.com/memt30.zip
after you extract that zip file, click on the README.txt file for the
instructions on how to create the boot floppy to test your RAM.
If you don't have a floppy drive use Microsoft's new Ramtest CD: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Good suggestions,

But also, since you now have that new Radeon, download the latest
drivers from the web. (Did that cd with the drivers that came in the
box even install for you? It would NOT for me.)

I too recommend updating to the latest drivers from the web in Step 1.

Cheers,
Jimmy.

Yeah, I saw that... just wanted to ask if the &*$! CD that came with
the card actually worked for the original poster.

Well, you know how it is. By the time a CD is made,
the drivers have already gone through two updates. :-)

Cheers,
Jimmy.

Sure. True. But the CD I got out of the box had a critical failure and
would not even load drivers. It reported some file missing and then
crapped out.

That must have been disappointing. Any luck getting
that CD replaced?

Cheers,
Jimmy.
