Computer lockup

My computer suddenly showed that it was locked. A screen
came on to unlock the computer that asked for the user
name and password. I tried several possibilities but all
were rejected. How do I learn what my user name and
password should be to unlock the computer. I had to go
back and restore the computer to the previous day to get
back to work and back online.
