Computer Locks Up

My computer is not overloaded however it randomly locks up. I don't have more than 5 applications open at one time and I lose everything that I'm working on. Is there some type of system service that I need to run to prevent this from happening? My Sony is about 2 years old and that has been the only real problem with it. Thanks for your help

If you are completely certain that your computer is not afflicted by any
type of virus or adware/spyware, then you should suspect a hardware issue.
If you've recently added RAM, the new module may have a problem. Or, you may
have a problem with overheating. Open the case and blow out the dust. You'll
be surprised what you find in there! I once found a missing sock. (Not
really.)
