My computer has been getting slower and slower and my CPU useage is showing
100%, even though nothing is running. I also have had McAfee alert me to
some potential viruses over the last 6-8 months, which I either deleted or
quarantined. My suspicion is that I might have deleted or quarantined a file
from the OS, thus affecting my system performance. I put in my Win2000 CD
looking for the repair option, but could not find it. I did find an option,
to "upgrade", which looked like it would do the same thing without have to
reformat. I proceeded to do this and I get 90% through the process and it
just stops halfway through Registers components (the step after setting up
my mouse, keyboard, etc.) in the Set Up mode. I then just have to power
down. Rebooting takes me to the same point. Safe mode takes me to the same
point. How do I get out of this mode without reformatting?
Thanks for any help you can give.
