computer lagging

Please help! for some strange reason every once in awhile my pc (dell 4400)
starts to lag. by this I mean I click to open a new page or start a game and
it hesitates. the window opens but on the bottom ( where it shows what
windows are open) it takes like 5-10 seconds for new windows box to appear.
It is also taking forever to start any programs. I ran spy sweeper, no ads on
cookies, restored pc to 4 days ago when it ran good, but still the same. Any
help please.

When did you last defrag ?
