I have a laptop, with two wireless options, GPRS, which works great and a
cisco aironet adapter (802.11b). I recently installed the latest Microsoft
security updates and now, when I turn on the radio (cisco aironet utility),
and it recieves any signal at all, the computer immediatly reboots and I can
not stop it from continuing to reboot, until I shut it down and turn it back
on in a place where the 802.11 can not connect.

Any ideas?

I don't know exactly what the problem is but try to uninstall and reinstall
the utility/drivers being sure to use the latest package available from
Cisco. Also check Cisco's website for your product to see if there is any
info about a problem with any recent MS updates and how to resolve them. If
none of that helps consider removing the updates you installed. In Windows
2000 it is more difficult to see when an update was installed then XP but if
you go to the \winnt folder you will see files that match the update number
and a date for that file [ it may help to sort by date] or you can examine
the windows update.log file to see which updates you last installed. Then in
add and remove programs you should be able to remove the updates to see if
that resolves the problem. Also look in Event Viewer application/system logs
to see if any pertinent events were recorded at the time of the reboot that
may help in resolving the problem.

Of course updates are important and you could install one at a time from the
last group to try and pinpoint the one that caused the problem at which
point you would have more to go by for contacting Cisco or Microsoft. MS
does not charge for problems related to security updates, just be sure to
tell them that right up front that the problem started after installing the
particular security update. There is also a Microsoft newsgroup dedicated to
issues with updates that you may want to post in, possibly someone there
would know of a problem such as yours. --- Steve
