computer keeps crashing

please help after being on my computer for a while it either slows way down or crashes a lil box pops up and says system shutdown and starts counting it tells me to log off and save all work why is this doing this and what can i do
 
My pc keeps freezing or becoming slow, and loads of time it restarts itself and takes upto 20 minutes to fully restart again.
