Computer just stops playing sounds

If I reboot my pc the sound works fine ie. cd's and mp3's and internet sounds
but after about 15 mins of inactivity I loose all sound and the only way to
correct this is to reboot. This problem has only just started over the last
week or so. Any suggestions.

Here are some suggestions:

Check all power management software, including any that might be on the
sound card. To check the sound card, go to Device Manager (System applet in
Control Panel) and look at its Properties. If it does have power
management, try turning it off.

Look in Event Viewer to see if there are clues:
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

Does something else run that perhaps takes over the sound card and is
failing? Can you consistently reproduce the error?

Uninstall the current sound card and swap it out for a known-working one.
Does the problem still occur?

Uninstall/reinstall the sound card.Update the audio driver.Visit the
manufacturer's site to download and install the latest audio driver.
