Hey.

My computer is stuffed.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 9100 - older model laptop, had it for about 5 years now

It's been stuffing up lately, I think due to some virus troubles

Now its completely rooted, and I cannot even log into my desktop

I boot my computer, it loads up until it gets to the pre logon page, where
it says

"Windows is starting up..."

Wait for it to do something, but NOTHING HAPPENS!!

I've tried starting in safe mode, but it just piles me a load of system32
locations, and then comes a lovely blue screen error...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration?
A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us

Please post the complete Stop Error ( BSOD) Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Gerry, Gerry, Gerry; READ his post.
He can't boot it.
HOW can he right-click on the My Computer Icon.
Dear, oh, dear!!!!!!!

You have tried to get into Safe Mode, with no good results.
Do you have the XP disk that came with the computer?
If not, contact Dell, and they should send you one for a nominal cost.

You don't describe your problems with enough detail ("stuffed",
"rooted") for a specific diagnosis. If you are able to provide specific
details about the problem(s) you are encountering, we might be able to
help. Otherwise, I suggest:

1- Dell technical support,
2- the Dell Community Forums,
3- a visit from a professional technician, or, if nothing works,
4- erasing your hard disk and starting over.

My first choice wuld be the Dell Community Forums:

When you start up and before you see the Windows screen, hit F8 and if you
time it right, you get a list of boot options. Go for Safe Mode, or last
configuration that worked.

If either work, you have a chance of fixing it. If you can only get to a
command prompt, run chkdsk. And if you can boot into safe mode, run a
thorough virus check.
