Computer hangup after checking properties on hard drive

I often open My Computer, right click to Properties, then, after disk cleanup, close. My computer then seems to hang up (nasty hour glass) and I have to restart through button or Task Manager. This is a pain--can it be corrected?

I'll betcha a bunch of .tmp files you tried to delete today will, in fact,
be able to be deleted if you reboot tomorrow and try again.

In the process of deleting the temp files, I find that there are some that

just won't delete even after closing all opened programs (have to
"ctrl+select those" to allow the others to delete). Is there a way to delete
the "undeletable"?
