Hi Chuck:
We had to have our restart button replaced & when we got
the puter back they had loaded Aopen Vivid Bios...I have
no idea why...The computer supply company may have done
it as a favour to a friend but I surely hate
that...anyways I think the freezing has something to do
with Internet Explorer-It only happens wether on the net
or after we d/c -short time after that is...yes I am dial
up....I am a computer dummy & am really getting annoyed
with the freeze ups. I ahve lost a lot of info that I
hadn't saved.
I hope you can help by putting me in the right section in
Microsoft for repair or changes for a new learner.
Thanks
boo
Boo,
How about you run an AIDA report - All Pages, then see if you can paste the
report into your next post.
Also, use this online performance assessment:
<

Finally, on the chance that the computer supply company is not totally hygienic,
check for spyware.
Start by downloading LSP-Fix from <
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, and
CWShredder from <
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html>.
First, run CWShredder.
Now check for, and remove, spyware. Get HijackThis
<
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155> and Spybot S&D
<
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download>, both of which are
free and very trusted crapware detectors and removers.
1) Install and run Spybot. First update it ("Search for updates"), then run a
scan ("Check for problems"). Trust Spybot, and make all recommended deletions.
2) Install and run HijackThis. Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save the
Log.
3) Have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the following
forums (and post it here):

If removal of any spyware affects your ability to access the internet (some
spyware builds itself into the network software, and its removal may damage your
network), run LSP-Fix.
Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
